I don't know about you, but when I was younger, I used to wonder a lot about "who I am supposed to be". When I look back at it, I almost want to cringe at the amount of times I wrote "Who am I?" in my diary. I had an image of old people being so sure of themselves, with such great understanding of the world and their place in it. I would think to myself, "Wow, I'm so awkward! I can't wait until I'm older and be less awkward and more mature." Probably not in those words, but definitely something along those lines.
Well, ten years later, I'm at the age of those old people that I used to admire so much. And I think it's safe to say - I'm still the same person, efffffff.
To my 12-year old self, I'm sorry to disappoint you...but your 22-year old self is just as awkward as you were back then. Mario Party 1 on the N64 is still your favourite video game. You still giggle when people fart in a quiet room and make connections in conversations that nobody else seems to understand. At this point, I'm pretty sure you will continue to be the same for the rest of your life. Even when you're a little granny, you'll probably still be making remarks dripping in sarcasm and ruining your own jokes by laughing at them.
I thought maturity was supposed to kick in when I hit puberty.
I guess not. Darn.

You may just not notice how much you matured. And it's not a bad thing to have the spirit of a child
No shame in being forever young.
You can't change who you are at heart, but you can change what you become. And you can become anything you want, if you push hard enough for it.
You are who you are. What you do in life can be vast. By the sound of things though, I like who you are (smiles); it's seems genuine, cute, and for the most part happy (grins)
ha ...
I love this post.
haha I definitely know what you mean, I always thought when I "grew up" things would just fall into place and I'd know exactly what to do, how to dress, how to act, what to be... oh wait, you mean I have to figure all that stuff out myself?! o_o
haha here's to being 22 and still as awkward as our 12-year-old selves! :P
